The Future Starts Now
Harness Racing New Zealand has launched a growth pathway to secure a profitable and sustainable future for harness racing.
A stakes announcement was part of a wide-ranging suite of initiatives called ‘The Future Starts Now’.
Stakes for the 2024/25 season are to be increased by over $10m, with the New Zealand Cup becoming a $1m race for the first time in 15 years.
There will be a 20 per cent increase in races in the 2024/25 season, with 75% of funding allocated to base racing.
Overall stakes will rise $10m with funding coming from HRNZ, Entain, the NZ Sires' Stakes Board and TAB NZ.
Among those benefitting from stakes increases will be Trotting, the Sires Stakes' programme and Fillies and Mares, of both gaits.
Several grassroots initiatives, including the Country Cup series, and the Winter Rewards, will be retained.
