Wigg third at world amateur drivers' championships
New Zealand representative Cheree Wigg has finished third at the world amateur drivers' championships in Finland.
The championships, featuring nine races at three different tracks at Teivo, Mikkeli and Jokimaa, concluded overnight with Wigg finishing on 69 points, just behind winner Ove Bakkevold Reime from Norway on 72 and Spain's Antonia Vaquer Staschel on 71.
Twelve drivers took part in the championships, with Wigg securing third following a second in the ninth and final race. It was her best result of the championships.
It was the Canterbury-based trainer-driver's first trip to Scandanavia but her second world championships, after finishing seventh in 2018 in Belgium while her twin sister Sheryl was New Zealand's representative in Italy in 2022.
Wigg drove in seven of the nine races.
